What Is The Usual Procedure For The First Visit To Wiser Smiles
- Completion of new patient forms: During the first visit, new patients are asked to complete forms that collect relevant personal, medical and dental information. This helps the dental team better understand each patient’s needs and history.
- Review of major dental concerns and past dental history: Comprehensive dental health check (teeth, gums, soft tissues and any previous dental treatment). In addition, medical history is reviewed to identify any conditions that may affect dental treatment.
- Review of past medical history, as certain conditions significantly affect dental care.
- Digital radiographs of the teeth as needed: In some cases, digital X-rays of the teeth may be taken to obtain detailed images of the tooth structure and diagnose hidden problems such as cavities or infections.
- Comprehensive dental examination: A thorough examination of each tooth and surrounding structures to detect any dental problems, and of the soft tissues of the mouth and temporomandibular joint to detect abnormalities or injuries.
- Soft tissue examination for abnormal lesions in the mouth, throat and surrounding structures.
- Occlusion examination (bite analysis).
- Examination of the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles.
- Esthetic examination (appearance of teeth and gums): The esthetic appearance of the teeth and gums is evaluated, as well as an assessment of periodontal health for signs of gum disease.
- Tooth-by-tooth examination with an intraoral camera the size of a toothbrush.
- Periodontal examination for gum disease.
- Personal consultation, discussion of dental needs and desires to create a targeted treatment plan to improve dental health and smile.
